(9) "Head of a Philosopher," a 17th Century Neopolitan School oil on canvas (unsigned). This masterful study bears all the hallmarks of the work of Jusepe De Ribera (1588-1656) or a very close follower. The painting (which is lined but otherwise in excellent condition) measures 9 inches by 7 1/4; with the frame, 11 by 12 3/4.

(9a) "Village Provencale," signed G. Bailly, probably Georgette Bailly as listed in Benezit. A substantial painting of a village street scene in rural Provence, in its entirety accomplished with a pallet knife, in its original ornate gilt frame. Dimensions: 39 by 31 inches; with frame, 48 x 40.
