(42) "A Good Day's Work" by Julia Ostrom, Born 1889 (oil on board). Ostrom, a portraitist, lived and painted in San Francisco; she exhibited her work at the California State Fair in Sacramento. She's listed in "Artists in California" by Edan Hughes. Measurements: 24 by 28 inches; with frame, 31 by 35 inches.

(43) Edmond-Francois Aman-Jean (French, 1860-1935) painted "Portrait of a Woman Holding Flowers" (oil on original, unlined canvas). One of the great French Symbolist artists, Aman-Jean's work is represented in museum collections worldwide. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in 1860 and then shared an apartment with Seurat. A friend and follower of the great French poets Mallarme and Pedadin, he showed regularly at the Paris Salon, the Salon de la Societe Nationale and the Salon de la Rose-Croix. This haunting portrait dates from around 1894 and masterfully captures the mystery and spiritualism associated with the French Symbolist movement. Measurements: 36 1/2 by 28 3/4 inches; with frame, 45 by 37 1/2 inches.
