(37) "Au Secours" by Georges-Jean-Marie Haquette (French, 1854-1906); oil on original canvas with a few small repairs. Haquette, a student of Millet and Cabanel, made his debut in the Paris Salon in 1875 and later became a professor at the School of Decorative Arts in Sevres. Haquette received honorable mention at the Paris Salon in 1878 and a bronze medal in 1890. He exhibited at the Exposition Universalle in 1901. (38) Aleyda Wolfsen's "Portrait of a Lady with Flowers." Wolfsen (Dutch, 1648-1690) studied under Caspar Netscher, whose works are often confused with hers; she was one of the few noteworthy female artists in 17th Century Holland. In 1674 she was commissioned to paint the portrait of Prince Guillaume III. Her work is represented in the Hague as well as the Hermitage in Leningrad. On of her paintings is illustrated in "The Obstacle Race," by Germaine Greer. Measurements: 23 1/2 by 18 1/4; with frame, 33 by 27 inches. (39) Pieter Potter (Dutch, 1597-1656) painted "Portrait of a Lady with Gold Necklace" on panel, which cracked down the center over the centuries (it's been well restored and is barely visible to the eye, but presents itself in photographs). Potter painted still lifes, battle scenes, genre pictures and portraits. His work was influenced by Duck, Codde and Duyster, and may be found in the National Gallery in London as well as the Hermitage in Leningrad. (41) "Figures Paying Tribute" is attributed to Giovanni-Andrea Donducci (Italian, 1575-1655). Donducci studied at the Carracci Academia during the early 1590's; he then traveled to Rome and befriended Agostino Tassi. In 1613 he returned to Bologna where he received numerous important commissions. His work is repesented in museum collections world-wide.
